You need to set up two methods (primary and backup). You can change them at any time by signing in to your account.
- Select Mobile authenticator app and then click Next:
- Download any authenticator app on your phone from Google Play or App store, or open an authenticator app that you already have on your phone and do the following:
- Scan the QR code on the screen with your authenticator app to register your account with the app.
- Enter the six-digit code shown on the authenticator app.
- Select Security key and then click Next.
- Connect the security key to the USB port in your device.
- Push or touch the button in the security key.
- Select Mobile phone number and then click Next.
- Enter your mobile number to which you want to receive the code as SMS. To receive the code as a voice message, click Call me with a code.
- Enter the six-digit code that you received and click Verify.
Backup method is used in case your primary method does not work. So, choose a different method than the one that you set up for a primary method. For example, if you have selected Mobile authenticator app as the primary method, choose Mobile phone number or Security key as the backup method.
Add a child to your account
- In the Child Name box, type the child's name.
The name must not contain special characters such as &, #, or $.
- Choose Select an Avatar or Upload Photo to set a profile picture for your child.
You can add more children to your account after you complete the set up for the first child.
- Select the restriction level based on your child's age.
Norton Family applies house rules based on the restriction level you choose. You can customize the house rules at any time to better suit each child's maturity level.
- Click Next.
You can add up to 15 children to your account. You can add or remove a child from your Norton Family account anytime.
Install Norton Family on your child's device
Install Norton Family on each device that your child uses.
To install and use Norton Family, your device must meet minimum requirements. To know more, read System requirements to install and set up your Norton protection.
Install Norton Family on Windows
After you add your child's profile to your account, the next step is to install the Norton Family app on your Child's device to monitor the activities.
- In the Norton Family Setup screen, do one of the following:
- If the device is used by the parent, select the parent profile. Select Windows PC and then type your child's email address to share the download link. You may also share the direct download link from the Copy Link tab.
Open the email on your child's device and follow the instructions to install the Norton Family child's app.
- If the device is used by the child, select the child profile and go to step 2.
- Norton Family automatically detects your Operating System. Click Download.
- Click or run the downloaded installer file.
- Norton Download Manager will automatically install Norton Family on the device.
- Read the User License Agreement and then click Agree & Install.
The device gets automatically linked to your account.
- Click Continue.
- In the assign device window, click Edit next to the child you want to assign this device to.
- Click signs in as and choose the account that the child uses to log on to this device. If your child uses multiple user accounts, choose the child on all those user accounts.
- Click Save >OK.
- Ensure that you have enabled the Norton Family browser extension for the best protection. For more information, read Enable Norton Family browser extension.

Install Norton Family on Android
- In the Norton Family Setup screen, do one of the following:
- If the device is used by the parent, select the parent profile. Select Android and then scan the QR code using the child's device to download the Norton Family app. You may also copy and share the direct download link from the Copy Link tab.
Open the app on your child's device and follow the instructions to install the Norton Family app.
- If the device is used by the child, select the child profile and go to step 2.
- Tap Install and follow the on-screen instructions.
- Open the Norton Family parental control app.
- Read the Norton License Agreement and other policies, and then tap Continue.
- Do one of the following:
- Click Start Activation, enter the activation code in the portal, and click Activate.
On the child device, wait for a few minutes, verify if the correct account email id and child name are displayed, and tap Confirm & Continue.
- Click Sign in and sign in to your account, choose the child to whom you want to assign this device, give a name that helps you identify this device and tap Continue.
Norton Family requires app permissions for time supervision, app supervision, and other features to enable and monitor your child's activities. For more information, see the "Ensure app permissions are turned on" section in Prepare your Android device for parental supervision using Norton Family.
These steps are general and may differ depending on the version of the Android OS.

Install Norton Family on iOS
- In the Norton Family Setup screen, do one of the following:
- If the device is used by the parent, select the parent profile. Select iOS and then scan the QR code using the child's device to download the Norton Family app. You may also copy and share the direct download link from the Copy Link tab.
Open the app on your child's device and follow the instructions to install the Norton Family app.
- If the device is used by the child, select the child profile and go to step 2.
- Install Norton Family parental control application.
- Tap Open.
- Tap Allow to receive notifications from Norton Family.
- Read the Norton License Agreement and other policies, and then tap Continue.
- Do one of the following:
- Click Start Activation, enter the activation code in the portal, and click Activate.
On the child device, wait for a few minutes and tap Confirm & Continue.
- Click Sign in and sign in to your account, choose the child whom you want to assign this device, and give a name that helps you identify this device. If you want to add a child, sign in to your account. For more information read, Add a child to your Norton Family account.
VPN is required to monitor or block web activities when your child is using apps other than the Norton Family browser.
Profile installation is required for instant lock, time supervision, and other features to work on your child's device.
